Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday is set to complete a shock season long loan deal to Azerbaijan, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claims that the 25-year-old is close to signing an unexpected deal with FC Gabala.

The report claims that the midfielder is set to travel to the club’s training camp on Tuesday to negotiate a potential move to Azerbaijan this summer.

The team are reportedly training in Austria ahead of the Europa League first qualifying round tie where they could face Polish outfit Jagiellonia Bialystok or Georgian side Dinamo Batumi on July 13.

This follows up from the story in the same newspaper which claimed that Halliday had been informed by Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha that he was no longer required at the club ahead of the new season.

The Scottish midfielder has only spent two years playing at Ibrox but he has made a significant impact at the club.

He helped guide Rangers back into the Scottish Premier League in his debut season, scoring 10 goals and providing eight assists in all competitions.

Halliday was a first-team regular once again in the previous campaign, making a total of 42 appearances in all competitions and contributing with five goals.

The midfielder’s contract with the Glaswegian club runs out in 2020.
