Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has hit out at Rangers chairman Dave King after the Gers man claimed that the Hoops do not deserve credit for their six consecutive titles.

The chief of Celtic’s rivals commented that as a result of Rangers’ absence from the top flight of Scottish football, he believes that the Hoops should only consider themselves to have two consecutive titles, rather than the six they have secured.

King’s inflammatory comments brought an angry response from former player and current pundit Chris Sutton, who called the 61-year-old “childish” and said he was behaving “like an infant” in the Daily Record.

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths also had some firm words for King, as he was quoted by the Scottish Sun as saying that “the gulf couldn’t be any bigger” between the two sides.

Now Celtic boss Rodgers has joined his man in taking a swipe at the Rangers chief, saying that people across the footballing world will be questioning what the Rangers man is on about.

Speaking at a press conference at Celtic’s temporary pre-season home in Austria, the Northern Irishman was quoted by the Daily Record as saying: “People who know football will wonder what he is talking about to be honest.

“I’m sure people in football, the Rangers directors, the players themselves, will know where they’re at.

“When you are in a league you want to win it no matter who is in it.

“You make your noise on the field. You respect your opponent always, you respect the traditions of the club, but you look after your own club and yourself.”

Celtic broke a number of records on their way to a domestic treble last season, with the Hoops not tasting defeat in any of the Scottish competitions.

They finished 39 points ahead of their Old Firm rivals in the Scottish Premiership last season, and winger Scott Sinclair says that the Hoops should be targeting another unbeaten season in the upcoming campaign.
