Halliday set for medical ahead of Rangers exit

|

Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday is poised to complete his switch to FC Gabala after agreeing to a move, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claim that the 25-year-old is set to undergo a medical on Wednesday ahead of his proposed season-long loan move to the Azerbaijan Premier League outfit.

Halliday was a regular first-team player at Ibrox last season, scoring five goals from 42 appearances in all competitions as Rangers endured a trophy-less return to life in the Scottish top-flight.

However, he has been deemed surplus to requirements by manager Pedro Caixinha ahead of the new season, and has been told to seek a fresh challenge or else he will be banished to the Under-20’s setup.

A number of English Championship sides were understood to be keen on rescuing Halliday from his Rangers nightmare, but the midfielder instead looks set to complete a move to Azerbaijan.

FC Gabala finished second in the top-flight during the 2016-17 season, and are set to compete alongside Rangers in the qualifying stages for the Europa League this summer.

But while the Scottish side begin their campaign in the first qualifying round, Gabala will enter the competition at the next stage against one of either Jagiellonia Bialystok or Dinamo Batumi.

The Scottish Sun had earlier revealed that Halliday was set to fly out for talks over a 12-month loan deal on Tuesday, but the latest report reveals a medical is now in place.
