Former Celtic forward Tony Watt believes wide forward Jonny Hayes is a “great signing” for the club.

The Scottish champions confirmed on their official website on Saturday afternoon that the 29-year-old has penned a three-year deal with the club.

Playmaker Hayes, who worked with Bhoys manager Brendan Rodgers at Reading as a youngster, makes a switch from Aberdeen.

Derek McIness’ side finished second in the Scottish Premiership during the recently concluded campaign, with Hayes providing 19 assists over the course of the season.

After his deal to Parkhead was completed, Watt offered his thoughts on Hayes and picked out one aspect of his play that he likes.

“I’ve always liked him,” Watt wrote on his personal Twitter account. “So direct, great signing.”

During his time at Aberdeen and under the management of McIness, Hayes was utilised in various attacking roles by his manager, mainly on the right and left wings.

As a result, he will face competition from the likes of Scott Sinclair for a first-team spot next season, with Rodgers playing Scotland’s Player of the Year on the left-hand side of attack.

The former Premier League player, who moved to Celtic from Aston Villa last summer, scored 25 goals in all competitions for the Glasgow club added with the fact that he provided 11 assists for his side.

Nonetheless, Hayes will join a team that won the Scottish Premiership, Scottish League Cup and Scottish Cup last season.
