Sheffield United are to approach Celtic on Monday to open a second set of talks over the potential transfer of attacking midfielder Gary Mackay-Steven, according to the Daily Record

The newspaper claim on their website that the Championship club have not been deterred by the Hoops’ asking price for the 26-year-old, and are ready to enter into discussions once again as they look to secure a loan deal, with a view to sign him permanently.

The Blades had originally made an approach for the winger two weeks ago according to the Daily Record, but were afraid of being priced out of a deal.

The one-time-capped Scotland international has two years remaining on his contract at Celtic Park, but the Hoops are ready to sell, with both Aberdeen’s Jonny Hayes and Manchester City’s Patrick Roberts lined up for moves to Glasgow this summer.

Brendan Rodgers’ side have also recently been linked with a move for Liverpool’s young winger Ryan Kent, according to the Sun journalist Alan Nixon, which would see Mackay-Steven’s first team opportunities diminish even further.

The 26-year-old struggled to earn himself a place in the starting XI under Rodgers last season, starting just five times in 10 appearances across all competitions, as he failed to find the net once.
