Celtic have tabled a near-£5million bid for young Lens centre-back Jean-Kevin Duverne, according to L’Equipe.

The French sports newspaper claim that the Hoops have made an offer of 5.5million euros (£4.8million) to the French Ligue 2 club in an attempt to land Duverne, 19, this summer.

The teenager has a soaring reputation after making a huge impression since making his first-team breakthrough at Lens last season.

He was a mainstay of the Lens team that finished fourth in the second tier of French football in 2016-17, accumulating 40 appearances in all competitions, including an impressive 36 league starts.

Celtic’s three premier centre-backs as they stormed to the domestic treble last season were Erik Sviatchenko, Jozo Simunovic and Dedryk Boyata.

However, manager Brendan Rodgers may regard Duverne as a player with the potential to develop into a Champions League calibre player who can be a stronger long-term option than the current trio.

Duverne has two years remaining on his contract at Lens, which makes the second-tier outfit vulnerable to a concerted swoop.
