Celtic have not made an approach to sign Racing Club de Lens centre-back Jean-Kevin Duverne, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claim that Brendan Rodgers is keen to sign the versatile 19-year-old defender this summer, but that they have yet to submit a formal offer, contrary to earlier reports.

French news outlet L’Equipe had earlier reported that the Scottish treble-winners had submitted an offer worth £4.8million for his services.

Rodgers has already permitted two of his defenders to leave the club on permanent deals this summer, with Efe Ambrose joining Hibernian and Eoghan O’Connell securing a move to Bury.

However, the Celtic chief is looking to add another defender to his ranks to provide further cover in the position ahead of the domestic treble defence during the 2017-18 season.

Duverne made 40 appearances in all competitions for French outfit Lens last season as they finished fourth in Ligue 2, and as a high-potential young player, he fits the profile for Rodgers.

The former Swansea and Liverpool manager has had a lasting effect on a number of the young players currently within Celtic’s first-team squad, including Kieran Tierney and Patrick Roberts.

Meanwhile, he has also moved to add further youth to his ranks, including goalscoring sensation Moussa Dembele last summer, and midfielder Kouassi Eboue in January.

But French youngster Duverne could be the latest emerging talent through the door at Parkhead, although a proposed move for the player remains well-short of a formal offer.

Celtic have already made one new addition this summer in Aberdeen winger Jonny Hayes.
