Celtic fans rave about Griffiths after brace v England

|

Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to heap praise on Leigh Griffiths after he scored a brace of free kicks for Scotland in their 2-2 World Cup qualifying draw with England on Saturday.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s deflected effort handed the Three Lions the lead midway through the second half, before two superb free kicks in the final five minutes from Griffiths put the Tartan army ahead.

However, it was not meant to be for Scotland as England’s Harry Kane netted a late equaliser as he volleyed home from Raheem Sterling’s pinpoint cross deep into injury time.

Griffiths, 26, had previously failed to find the net in 12 attempts for his nation, but his brace almost stole Gordon Strachan’s side a famous victory at Hampden.

Celtic fans were obviously delighted to see their striker score against the Three Lions and they took to Twitter to show it.

Despite the draw, England still sit top of Group F with 14 points and are favourites to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, while Scotland sit in fourth-place on eight points.

Griffiths enjoyed a fine 2016/17 season for Celtic, and despite the fact he played second fiddle to Moussa Dembele for the majority of the campaign he still managed to score 18 goals in 35 league and cup games.
