Another former Premier League star, Carlos Vela, has shone in the blue and white stripes of Real Sociedad since moving to the La Liga outfit from Arsenal in the summer of 2012.
But with just 12 months remaining on his contract with his current side, the 28-year-old winger looks unlikely to sign a new deal with the Spanish club and West Ham should take advantage of that.
Robert Snodgrass failed to replace the loss of Payet to the standard required, but Vela would be able to do just that at the London Stadium if brought to Stratford this summer.
