Everton have been named as favourites to secure the signing of Manchester United defender Chris Smalling, according to the latest betting odds.

Betting agency Sky Bet have priced the centre back at 2/1 to arrive at Goodison Park before September 3rd, placing them as firm favourites to secure the English defender’s signature.

The bookmaker prices the centre-back at 8/11 to remain at Old Trafford this summer, but the Toffees certainly are not far behind.

Arsenal are the second favourites behind Ronald Koeman’s side at 6/1, while a whole host of Premier League clubs follow the Gunners.

The odds come after a report from the Daily Star which claimed that Everton, West Ham and Crystal Palace were all looking into making a move for the 31-time-capped England international.

However, with the Hammers and the Eagles priced at 12/1 and 20/1 respectively, it appears that it is the Merseyside club who are the most likely to secure a deal for the Manchester United man.

Smalling saw his playing time limited last season as he was sidelined by both a foot and a knee injury at points during the campaign.

He managed to appear in just 18 league games for United, although did make 10 Europa League appearances as the Reds went on to beat Ajax in the final and secure Champions League football for next season.

The 27-year-old may face a fight for his place in the Manchester United starting XI, after boss Jose Mourinho secured the signing of 22-year-old centre back Victor Lindelof from Portuguese side Benfica, with the Sun claiming a fee of £35million.
