Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic has admitted he could be forced to leave the club this summer.

The 22-year-old has struggled to make an impact at the Premier League club since his arrival in 2015, and faces an uncertain future ahead of the new campaign.

Mitrovic scored just four times from 25 appearances in the Championship last season, but with Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez targeting attacking reinforcements this summer, he could be sacrificed.

A number of European clubs have reportedly shown an interest in his services, with the Chronicle claiming that the Magpies are prepared to ship him out on loan in the coming months.

But Mitrovic has also left the door open to a potential move away from St. James’ Park, despite having an opportunity to test his abilities in the Premier League for a second time.

Speaking about his future, Mitrovic said, as quoted by the Chronicle: “I heard something about other clubs but for now I just want to rest. I need to prepare for next season.

“If there are some good offers for me – which are also good for the club – come in for me over the summer then we will speak about it.

“If it doesn’t happen them I’m still a Newcastle United player, I have three years on my contract.”

Turkish news outlet Fotospor had claimed last week that Besiktas chiefs were set to fly to England to negotiate a move with the club, following preliminary talks with the player’s agent.

The Northern Echo, meanwhile, have claimed that Italian giants Napoli are mulling over a deal worth £8.7million to bring the Serbian international striker to Serie A.

Mitrovic had initially moved to Newcastle for a fee of £13million after giving a glowing review of his talents whilst playing for Anderlecht in the Belgian Pro League.

He netted 44 goals from 90 appearances in all competitions for the club, but has failed to replicate such form upon his arrival in England.
