Marseille are eyeing a summer swoop for Tottenham flop Moussa Sissoko, according to a Mirror report.

The newspaper claims the French giants have emerged as “serious suitors” for the 27-year-old midfielder, who spent most of his debut Spurs campaign on the fringes of the team.

It is said Marseille’s new owner Frank McCourt is ready to spend big this summer in a bid to rival Monaco and PSG for the Ligue 1 title next term.

Spurs signed Sissoko from Newcastle for £30million last summer, but the report states despite the fact his value has dropped significantly chairman Daniel Levy will still demand a “hefty” price for him.

This comes after the Gambling Times previously reported that the 27-year-old is attracting interest from China, and Spurs would be willing to listen to offers for him.

Meanwhile, Sissoko revealed to French newspaper L’Equipe that he wants to leave the North London club this summer and he would be open to a return to his homeland.

He failed to make an impact in his first season with Tottenham, and despite playing 34 league and cup games, he only provided four assists and failed to score.

Prior to joining Spurs he had been at Newcastle for three seasons where he was a mainstay of their midfield, making 133 appearances in all competitions, which yielded 12 goals and 19 assists.

Sissoko has been capped by France on 52 occasions, and he played the full 90 minutes as his nation fell to a 2-1 World Cup qualifying defeat to Sweden on Friday night.
