Georginio Wijnaldum – 8/10
Very much a one season wonder for the Magpies, Holland international Georginio Wijnaldum joined from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2015, for a reported fee of £14.5million.
An attacking midfielder, ‘Gini’ was one of the few bright lights during Newcastle’s fateful 2015/16 campaign, which saw the North East side suffer relegation, despite Wijnaldum’s 11 goals.
A silky passer and a potent attacking threat, highlights during his time at St James’ Park include a four goal haul in a 6-2 victory over Norwich City, as well as a goal on his debut against Southampton.
Sold to Liverpool for £23million at the end of the season, it is a case of what might have been between Wijnaldum and Newcastle had they managed to remain in the top flight.
