New Leeds head coach Thomas Christiansen must get his transfer spending right in the coming months if he is to end fans’ wait of a return to the Premier League.

The 44-year-old was announced by the Yorkshire giants on Thursday and now faces the task of building a side at Elland Road that is capable of gaining promotion next term.

Garry Monk transformed the team last season, and exceeded expectations as they narrowly missed out on a play-off place after an end-of-season collapse.

He couldn’t agree a new deal over the summer though, and Leeds moved to bring Christiansen in.

However, expectations are high and fans will expect to challenge for a play-off place again next season – as a minimum requirement – and that’s going to take some sharp business from the new boss.
