Lampard delivers verdict on Everton’s Lukaku

Former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard believes Romelu Lukaku would be a very good signing for the club.

The Blues are on the hunt for more goalscoring firepower to aid their Premier League title defence next season, and Everton’s 24-year-old star has been lined up as a potential summer addition.

Everton face the prospect of losing Lukaku this summer, after the Belgian international striker refused to commit his future to the club and sign a new deal.

The Daily Star claim that the Toffees contract rebel is on the verge of completing a move to Stamford Bridge, and have agreed terms with the player over a £150,000-per-week deal.

Lukaku walked away from Chelsea to join Everton back in 2014, but ahead of his proposed return to the London club, Lampard insists he’ll be a worthwhile addition.

He said, as quoted by the Mirror: “I think that what he has done over the last two or three years is very good. Chelsea bought him as a youngster and maybe it was too early or maybe he didn’t get the chances then.

“But I love his attitude – the way he plays. He is very determined. I remember training with him. He was always practising.

“He deserves the best and if you are talking about Chelsea and if Diego Costa does move on, they want to get someone like for like in the style of a big front man to score goals, then Lukaku has proved he can do that.”

Lukaku scored 26 goals from 39 appearances in all competitions for Everton last season, and has thrived in his key player role at Goodison Park.

However, he struggled to achieve such a prolific return during his early days as a Chelsea player, failing to hit the back of the net during his 15 senior appearances for the club.

The Everton star has also been linked with a move to Manchester United, with the Express claiming that the Red Devils were in a tug-of-war battle with Chelsea for his signature.
