Paul Ince has urged Manchester United to add at least “two or three” new goalscorers to their ranks this summer.

The Premier League giants are likely to continue to splash the cash on high-profile new talent in the coming months, having already added £30million defender Victor Lindelof.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has made a new striker a top priority following the departure of Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the end of his one-year deal.

Ibrahimovic netted 28 goals from 46 appearances in all competitions last season, but a long-term injury setback saw United opt against offering him an extended deal.

But ex-United midfielder Ince has urged Mourinho to focus his efforts this summer on bringing more goalscorers to Old Trafford, both in midfield and in attack.

He told the Mirror: “I’d like to see him sign two or three – and I’d like those two or three to be able to come up with plenty of goals. Whatever he [Mourinho] does, he needs some more goals.

“Another midfielder, preferably one that scores. And I’d like to see them sign another striker – an A-lister. They were so reliant on Zlatan last season. Did anyone else get to double figures last season?

“If you look at the really successful Manchester United teams over the past 20 years, then they used to get goals from all over.”

United splashed out a world record £89.3million fee to re-sign Paul Pogba a year ago, but scored just nine goals in all competitions during his debut season.

Fellow summer signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan managed 11 goals, but Ince does not think there are enough prolific goalscorers currently at Mourinho’s disposal ahead of the new season.

The club have reportedly shown an interest in signing Everton star Romelu Lukaku this summer, with the Daily Star claiming United were set to rival Chelsea for his signature.

A move to re-sign Real Madrid hero Cristiano Ronaldo has also been touted, but Mourinho would reportedly prefer for the club to move for Tottenham sensation Harry Kane.
