Manchester United and Chelsea battling it out for Lukaku

|

Everton are at the centre of a £100million transfer tug of war between Chelsea and Manchester United for prize asset Romelu Lukaku, according to the Express.

The newspaper details that the powerful Belgian forward is wanted by both Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte and that it would take a world record nine-figure fee to secure the 24-year-old’s signing.

It is said that the Toffees are ready to fight to hang onto Lukaku, who still has two years left on his contract at the club.

However, it is also claimed that they are unlikely to win the battle with both United and Chelsea planning to go head to head in a bid to lure Lukaku with it likely that the two clubs will miss out on Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata.

It is further detailed that Conte’s men are seen as the favourites to sign re-sign Lukaku and that they will raise around £60million this summer by selling Diego Costa to China when the Chinese transfer window opens next month.

It is claimed Lukaku wants to prove that the London club were wrong to sell him to Everton for £28milion three years a go before giving him a proper chance to show what he can do.

The young striker has since scored 87 goals and provided 29 himself in 166 appearances for the Toffees in total and Ronald Koeman will be sure to want to keep hold of him for the next campaign.
