Everton to hand Pickford five-year-deal – Sky journalist

Everton are closing in on the signing of Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford on a long-term deal, according to a reliable journalist.

Sky Sports News broadcaster Jim White revealed on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon that the 23-year-old would be set to put pen-to-paper on a contract worth a minimum of five years.

White’s update comes after Sky Sports News had revealed on their official Twitter account that Everton had agreed a £30million fee with Sunderland for the signature of their star goalkeeper.

Pickford kept just four clean sheets from 29 Premier League appearances as Sunderland were relegated to the Championship last season, but the English goalkeeper was one of their most reliable performers.

His impressive displays for the Black Cats last term look set to be rewarded with an extended stay in the top-flight, with Everton now firmly in the driving seat for his services.

Times sport journalist Paul Joyce, meanwhile, offered a breakdown of the deal on Twitter claiming that Everton were set to pay £22million up-front, with the remaining £8million to be made up of add-ons.

But as negotiations progress, the finer details of the transfer continue to emerge, and it is now understood from Sky Sports broadcaster White that Pickford is set to be handed a deal worth a minimum of five-years.

Pickford would become Everton’s first summer signing if the proposed move goes ahead as planned, with Ronald Koeman looking to strengthen his side ahead of their Europa League campaign next season.

The Dutchman currently has Joel Robles and Maarten Stekelenburg at his disposal in the first-team squad, but the arriving Pickford will likely challenge for a starting role in both the short and long term.
