Rangers striker Kenny Miller has heaped praise on his Celtic rival Leigh Griffiths following his international heroics last week.
Griffiths played a starring role as Scotland secured a 2-2 draw against England in their World Cup qualifier at Hampden Park on Saturday, with the Celtic star scoring two brilliant free-kicks.
The quick-fire double from the 26-year-old looked to have handed the home side a priceless three points, only for Tottenham goalscorer Harry Kane to equalise in the final minute of added time.
However, Miller still believes Griffiths was deserving of high praise for his display, despite Scotland narrowly missing out on victory.
He told the Evening Times: “I’m delighted for Leigh that he’s opened his account, and what a way to do it. It’s just a shame it wasn’t the goals that got us the three points.
“But his all-round play was very good – he worked hard, from the first minute when he closed the goalkeeper down and blocked it.
“All round, for a lone striker, the number nine for Scotland, I thought it was a very good performance.”
Griffiths has been equally as impressive at domestic level for Celtic in recent seasons, despite having come under fire for his attitude and fitness.
The former Wolverhampton Wanderers centre-forward scored 18 goals from 38 appearances in all competitions last season, as Celtic cruised to a Scottish treble and finished the domestic campaign unbeaten.
But Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers had often expressed his concerns as to the player’s match fitness, having spent three different spells on the sidelines with injuries.
However, since his last setback he has looked in excellent condition, netting six goals and supplying five assists from his last seven appearances for club and country.
The brace against England saw Griffiths finally end his international goal drought, having made 12 previous appearances since making his senior debut in November 2012.
