Mick Quinn has heavily criticised Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham after the player has reportedly opted for a move to Swansea City over Newcastle United.

Quinn’s comments come after the Mirror recently reported that the 19-year-old has agreed to sign for the Welsh club on a one-year loan deal despite the huge interest shown from Newcastle.

The Daily Mail recently claimed that the failure to capture Abraham this summer had made Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez seriously consider his future at St James’ Park.

Writing in his column for the Chronicle, Quinn admits that he does not understand the teenager’s decision as he believes that Newcastle is a much bigger club than Swansea.

“I have to say I am extremely disappointed in Tammy Abraham,” he said.

“It shouldn’t take me to tell him that Newcastle is a far bigger football club than Swansea.

“Rafa is the manager who can make Abraham realise his potential. Paul Clement seems to be a decent coach, but Rafa is on a different level altogether.

“I don’t know Abraham personally and I don’t know his exact reasons for choosing Swansea over Newcastle but, quite frankly, any excuse would be weak in my eyes.”

The youngster has attracted a lot of interest from a host of top teams this summer following his fantastic performances last season.

Abraham was sent out on loan to Championship side Bristol City last season and he was one of the best players at the club, scoring 26 goals and providing four assists in all competitions.

The teenager is currently away on international duty with the England Under-21 national team in the European Championships in Poland.

Abraham is yet to find the back of the net in the tournament but he is set to feature in the semi-final against Germany on Tuesday night.
