Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is considering his future at the club following a number of transfer setbacks, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claims that people close to the 57-year-old manager have confirmed that he is growing increasingly frustrated with lack of transfer activity during this summer window.

The Spaniard is reportedly set to hold further talks with the club managing director Lee Charnley in order to find a way to resolve the current situation but Newcastle have declined to comment on the matter.

It is understood that Benitez is irritated over the dealings with striker Tammy Abraham and goalkeeper Willy Caballero, after both players seem to be heading for other clubs despite Benitez being confident they were coming to St James’ Park.

Abraham is reportedly on his way to fellow Premier League side Swansea City whilst free agent Caballero is understood to prefer a move to champions Chelsea.

The Mail report that Newcastle are also set to miss out on signing Manchester City duo Fabian Delph and Eliquim Mangala this summer with both players on the brink of completing moves to Stoke City and Lyon respectively.

Benitez was assured that the board would back him with a multi-million pound investment in players this summer but the Tyneside club have only signed Christian Atsu from Chelsea.

Benitez’s current contract at St James’ Park expires in 2019.
