Norwich City skipper Russell Martin has praised fellow Scotland international teammate Kieran Tierney and branded him “one of the best young full-backs in Europe”.

The 19-year-old is set to feature in Scotland’s vital World Cup qualifier against England at Hampden Park on Saturday afternoon.

There had been some concern that Tierney would not be able to play as he was forced off Celtic’s Scottish final clash against Aberdeen at the end of last month with a facial injury.

The teenager has been one of the star performers in Scotland this season as his displays helped the Hoops achieve a sensational domestic treble.

Tierney made a total of 40 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals and providing 12 assists from the full-back position.

Speaking with the Scottish Sun, Martin believes that the youngster has all the attributes to make it at the top level and enjoy even more success in the future.

“He’s very athletic, he listens well, he gets stuck in and his understanding of the defensive side of the game is excellent. That’s what allows him to switch positions,” he said.

“I think that’s very rare in someone so young. He’s a very talented boy.”

“He’s got a bit of everything. He’s really honest and admits that there are areas of his game he’s looking to improve but I think he can go as far as he wants in the game.

“I think he’s one of the best young full-backs in Europe.”

Tierney really announced himself on the international stage earlier this season as he produced a great display in Scotland’s 1-0 victory over Slovenia in the World Cup qualifier at Hampden Park in March.

The teenager was unable to face England at Wembley back in November as he suffered a terrible ankle injury in October which kept him out of action until the start of the new year.

Tierney has made three appearances for the Scotland senior first-team.
