AC Milan eye swoop for Costa

Italian giants AC Milan are weighing up a move for Chelsea ace Diego Costa, according to a London Evening Standard report.

The newspaper has claimed the Milan club, who are “determined” to sign a new striker, have ended their pursuit of Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata and see Costa as a good alternative.

It is said the Serie A giants are contemplating a bid for the 28-year-old amid doubts over whether he will remain at Chelsea.

Costa, 28, has previously stated he would only leave the Blues for his former club, Atletico Madrid, and AS even claimed a deal was “very close” to being struck which would see him make the switch in January 2018.

The Spaniard’s contract at Stamford Bridge runs until 2019, but he has been unsettled since January of this year amid interest from several Chinese clubs.

However, he was still in fine form for the Blues last term, scoring 20 goals in 35 league games, as his side cantered to the Premier League title.

Costa joined Chelsea from Atletico in the summer of 2014 for £32million, and he has since become a key player for the club, playing 120 league and cup games, netting 58 goals and providing 24 assists.

The 28-year-old has been capped by Spain on 15 occasions, scoring five goals, one of which came in the side’s 4-1 World Cup qualifying win over Israel in March of this year.

AC Milan are looking to strengthen their attacking options this summer, after a disappointing 2016/17 campaign saw them finish sixth in Serie A, 28 points behind champions Juventus.
