Steve Bruce would solidify his defence by bringing Australia captain Mark Milligan to Aston Villa this summer from the United Arab Emirates Gulf League.

The Sun claim Bolton are leading the chase for the 31-year-old holding midfielder, who is known for his ability to marshal a back four and break up the connection between an opponent’s midfield and attack.

It is believed that Championship rivals Burton and Birmingham are also keen on signing the 55-time international, who has also played in the Chinese Super League and in his home country with Melbourne Victory.

Milligan starred for the Socceroos in their Confederation Cup campaign, as they drew against Chile and Cameroon while losing to Germany to finish third in the group stage and fail to progress.
