Tottenham have lined up Southampton’s Cedric Soares as a potential replacement for wantaway defender Kyle Walker, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claim on their website that Mauricio Pochettino has added the 25-year-old to a shortlist of names who could step in to Walker’s slot at right-back.

The news comes just days after the Mail reported that Spurs had rejected a £40million bid from Manchester City for the 27-year-old England international.

Portuguese international Soares, who has 21 caps for his country, was a key part of the side who were triumphant at last year’s European Championships, as he played every minute of every match from the Round of 16 stage.

He has also established himself as a key player for his club, having joined the Saints from Sporting CP in the summer of 2015 for a fee of £4.7million.

Since his arrival, he has gone on to make 61 appearances across all competitions, 34 of which came last season, while he has also managed to chip in with 5 assists during his time on the south coast.

He signed an improved four-year contract in August last year, but the Mirror report that they are willing to improve his deal once again in order to ward of interest from potential suitors.

They also claim that Tottenham face a battle with Champions League finalists Juventus and Catalan giants Barcelona in trying to secure his signature.
