Thomas Christiansen will be joined by three members of a new-look coaching staff at Leeds United, it was confirmed on Monday.

The new manager has dispensed with the trio who assisted ex-boss Garry Monk, with Leeds director of football Victor Orta revealing that Pep Clotet, James Beattie and Darryl Flahavan are all leaving the club.

Christiansen and Orta revealed at the new manager’s unveiling on Monday, as quoted by West Yorkshire Sport, that the trusted backroom team of Monk will be replaced by new assistant manager Julio Banuelos, fitness coach Ivan Torres and goalkeeping coach Marcos Abad.

Denmark-born former Spain international Christiansen has named Banuelos as his number two after they worked together at Cypriot clubs APOEL Nicosia and AEK Larnaca in the last three years.

Abad is the former goalkeeping coach at Middlesbrough, which is where Orta quit at the end of last month to join Leeds as director of football.

Christiansen was named as the shock successor to Monk last Thursday and has wasted little time in bringing in the men who will assist him on the training ground and in the dugout.

Banuelos was once on the books of Real Madrid during his playing days but did not make the grade and spent most of his career in the lower leagues of Spanish football with Mirandes and in the Real Zaragoza B side.

As a manager, Banuelos has had two spells at Alaves and demonstrated his calibre by securing promotions in the lower leagues in Spain at Mirandes and Burgos.

He was appointed Christiansen’s number two at AEK Larnaca in 2014 and then followed him when he was appointed at APOEL two years later.
