Arsenal defender Calum Chambers has refused to answer questions about his future with the north London club.

The Evening Standard reported that after the England Under-21s game against Sweden last week the right-back said that he didn’t wish to comment on his position at the club.

The England Under-21 showed his capability while at Middlesbrough, and despite his impressive display his efforts were not enough to keep the club from relegation.

The defender made 25 Premier League appearances for the club, where he scored two goals and provided one assist.

Establishing himself back in the Arsenal squad after spending a season away on-loan at Middlesbrough could prove difficult, as Arsenal appear to have a few alternative players higher in the pecking order than the 22-year-old.

While Chambers was away at the Yorkshire club, fellow Englishman Rob Holding proved he was worthy of a first team spot while Nacho Monreal also displayed impressive adaptability as centre-back, a position the Spaniard could be taking on more often as captain Per Mertesacker looks to be winding down.

Chambers was happy to discuss the Arsenal skipper post-match, and was quoted in The Evening Standard saying: “In the last few years he was my mentor,

“I’ve never seen such a professional, dedicated player, I’ve learned from him every day.”

The 22-year-old was placed alongside Mertesacker just months after joining the club in 2014 from Southampton for £16 million, and has praised the captain for his support throughout the years.

When asked about his future with Arsenal though, he merely said that he didn’t want to comment.

While the right-back remains tight-lipped about his future with the club, there have been reports linking the 22-year-old with a possible move to Everton this summer.
