Leeds director of football Victor Orta has revealed that he cannot guarantee players such as Chris Wood will be at the club next season.

The former Middlesbrough man joined the Championship side last month following the abrupt and shock departure of Garry Monk.

The Spaniard, who was attending a press conference on Monday afternoon where they were unveiling their new manager Thomas Christiansen, spoke about the future of Leeds players.

Orta made it clear that he would like 25-year-old Wood to be at the club next term following his impressive performances under Monk during the previous campaign but made the big admission that it is not set in stone.

“I hope but in football, no-one can say 100 per cent,” said Orta, as quoted by Yorkshire Evering Post journalist Phil Hay on his personal Twitter account. “I read that Chris is happy with the manager.”

New Zealand International Wood struck an impressive 27 goals from his 44 league matches last season which saw him win the Golden Boot award in the second tier of English football.

His performances were pivotal to Leeds challenging for a promotion place before a number of defeats during the penultimate month of the season resulted in the Yorkshire side dropping out of the top-six.

Now, the Elland Road faithful will be hoping Wood will stay at the club and help the new manager build on the success and foundations that were laid by his predecessor.

Wood has two years left to run on his current deal at Leeds and he has played in the Premier League before with Leicester City.
