Aston Villa could take a big step towards promotion back to the Premier League at the second attempt if they rivalled Serie A outfit Lazio and AC Milan for the signature of Fabio Borino.

The Daily Mail claim that the 26-year-old is a target for the Italian giants, after failing to prevent Sunderland from suffering relegation to the Championship last season.

Lazio are said to have proposed a £1million loan fee to lure Borini back to his home country with a view to a permanent £4million deal at the end of the 2017-18 season, while Milan have enquired about him.

It is believed that Sunderland would rather sell the one-time Italy international who has attracted interest from two of the best sides in Serie A despite scoring only two goals for the Black Cats last season.

This Is Futbol believes Aston Villa should rival the Italian giants for three reasons and in turn improve on last season’s mid-table finish by gaining Steve Bruce’s fifth career promotion from the Championship as a manager.
