Preston are not looking to re-sign Joe Garner from Rangers, according to the Lancashire Evening Post.

The newspaper claims in a major development that it’s senior sources at Deepdale have told them that the Daily Record report, which says the English Championship side are plotting a £500,000 swoop for the 29-year-old, is inaccurate.

It is understood that Preston have “no desire” to bring the striker back.

North End sold Garner for £1.8million last summer and he, as with many of his teammates, has since struggled to find form at Ibrox in what was a disappointing campaign for the Light Blues.

It is understood that the ex-Nottingham Forest forward pushed through his move out of Deepdale after signing up a new agent.

Garner has been in and out of the Gers starting line-up all throughout the season and has only scored ten goals in 37 appearances in all competitions – just seven of which in the Scottish Premiership.

The highlight of his time at Ibrox so far will undoubtedly be his hat-trick which came in the Scottish Cup semi-final thrashing of Hamilton in which Pedro Caixinha guided his side to a 6-0 win while he also scored in a 5-1 Old Firm loss to Celtic.

Caixinha is expected to make wholesale changes to his Rangers squad over the summer as he has been left largely unimpressed by the crop of players that were handed to him when he took over from Mark Warburton in March.
