Rangers are bracing themselves for a £500,000 bid for Joe Garner from Preston, according to a Daily Record report.

The newspaper claims the English Championship club are preparing to launch a move for the forward, 29, they sold to the Gers last summer for £1.8million.

It is said Preston never wanted to lose Garner, who was a fan favourite at the club, and they are now interested in resigning him.

The Record report that Rangers are willing to offload the 29-year-old at a huge loss and for a price that is a third of what they paid for him less than 12 months ago.

This comes after the Daily Express claimed that Ipswich were set to make a £500,000 bid  for the 29-year-old forward.

Garner has endured a season of mixed fortunes at the Ibrox club, scoring seven goals in 31 Scottish Premiership appearances.

He has never replicated the same prolific form that he enjoyed at Preston, which pushed the Gers into signing him in August 2016.

In the 2014/15 season he bagged 25 goals in 37 league outings as North End cruised to promotion to the Championship.

Rangers finished third in this term’s Scottish Premiership, a massive 39 points behind champions Celtic, and nine behind second-placed Aberdeen.

Pedro Caixinha is attempting to strengthen his squad this summer ahead of next campaign, and he may well look to offload Garner in order to free up some extra funds.

A Scottish Sun report claimed that the Portuguese boss could be just “a few days” away from completing his first summer signing as talks with Carlos Pena heat up.
