Liverpool and Roma are leading the race for Barcelona midfielder Rafinha, according to Catalan radio journalist Gerard Romero.

The 24-year-old central midfielder struggled for game time at the European giants in the last campaign and played just 18 times in La Liga.

His last league start came all the way back in Arpil due to an injury suffered against Granada and Barcelona currently have Ivan Rakitic, Sergio Busquets and the legendary Andres Iniesta in the centre of the park.

This could lead to Rafinha looking for first team football elsewhere and on Sunday Romero reported via his personal Twitter account that Roma and Liverpool were the two best placed teams to secure his signature.

“Rafinha has two interesting proposals to go out this summer. Roma and Liverpool are the best placed clubs today,” reported Romero, as translated from Spanish on social media.

Rafinha has been at Barcelona since 2006 and progressed through the B side and into the first team.

The two-time capped Brazil international has played in a total of 78 matches for the Catalan giants’ first team, scoring 11 goals and eight assists during that time and he is still contracted to the club until 2020.

Meanwhile, Liverpool could be looking to add further depth to their midfield ranks this summer after missing captain Jordan Henderson for large parts of the campaign through injury.

Additionally, Rafinha has won the La Liga title twice, four Copa del Rey trophies and one Champions League medal as recently as 2015 and Jurgen Klopp could be a big fan of the talented midfielder.
