Celtic youngster Josh Kerr is putting the finishing touches to a transfer to Premier League newboys Brighton, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claim that the south coast club are on the verge of signing the defender after agreeing the terms of a deal with the newly-crowned Scottish champions.

It is reported that Kerr, 19, has already passed a medical with the newly-promoted English outfit and is now expected to sign a pre-contract with the club that will seal the transfer when the window opens next month.

The teenager, who is predominantly a right-back but can also fill in at the centre of defence, is yet to play a competitive senior match for Celtic due to the intense competition for places at the treble chasers.

He has been part of the clubs’s youth set-up for five years since he was recruited from Hamilton.

Kerr was a key figure for the Celtic Under-20s as they won the Youth Cup this season and has also been in a regular for the club in the UEFA Youth League facing the likes of Manchester City and Barcelona.

But the Scottish Sun report that his transfer to Brighton is now nailed on and from next season he will be a member of the soon-to-be Premier League outfit’s Under-23s squad.
