Everton might be facing the possibility of needing a new striker ahead of next season.

Romelu Lukaku looks destined to move away from Goodison Park as he seeks Champions League football and Ronald Koeman should have a second go at trying to sign Arsenal player Lucas Perez to either replace the Belgian, or add some serious depth to his squad.

The 28-year-old really struggled for game time in his debut season at the Emirates and Spanish news oulet AS claims that he is attracting the attention of Sevilla, who were close to signing him from Deportivo last summer.

The Liverpool Echo reports that Perez was close to moving to Merseyside too, but Arsenal arrived with a late £17million move for the Spaniard.

Now would be the perfect chance for Koeman to re-ignite his interest in the Gunners man, as he should really be deserving of first-team football.

Perez played just 21 times in all competitions in North London, but still managed to score seven goals despite most of his appearances coming off the bench.

He can also play on the wing and managed to supply five assists – it makes you wonder how well he could have performed if Arsene Wenger actually gave him the chance.

But Arsenal’s loss should definitely be Everton’s gain.

The Toffees clearly know about Perez, enough for them to try and sign him last year, and they really should again this summer as they prepare for a Europa League campaign and look to break into the top six of the Premier League.

The former Deprortivo and PAOK player did have a tough time with injuries at the Emirates, mainly with his ankle and thigh.

However that appears to be pretty much a theme at Arsenal and maybe the chance to play regularly would allow him to become fitter and in turn get more goals.

Arsenal signed Perez for around £17million and if anyone wanted to try and snap him up this summer you’d expect it to be a fraction of that fee, meaning that he could be a relative bargain.

Everton need attackers and they need depth because Koeman has had to rely on youth and playing players out of position in the last couple of months.

Perez is the man the take the Toffees up to the next level.
