Sevilla are planning a bid for Arsenal attacker Lucas Perez, according to AS.

The Spanish news outlet claims that the La Liga side tried to sign the 28-year-old from Deportivo last summer but were beaten to the punch by the Gunners.

Perez has endured a tough year at the Emirates and is widely seen as a flop after starting just two Premier League fixtures.

It is understood that the ex-Deportivo man is unhappy in North London over his lack of chances in Arsene Wenger’s first-team plans and that Sevilla could try to rescue him.

AS claims that negotiations between Sevilla and Perez were “at an advanced stage” last summer before Arsenal hijacked their move with a £17.4million bid which was ultimately agreed.

The report says that Los Blanquirrojos didn’t manage to sign Perez because Deportivo weren’t willing to sell him for anything below his release clause and that the change in manager between Unai Emery and Jorge Sampaoli also had a knock-on effect.

Perez has made 21 appearances for the Gunners across all competitions this season, scoring seven goals and supplying five assists.

However much of his time on the pitch has came off the bench and has only made nine starts in both European and domestic competitions.
