Rangers are in talks to sign Norwich central midfielder Graham Dorrans and Chivas versatile midfielder Carlos Pena, according to Sky Sports Scotland.

The broadcaster claimed on their website on Monday that the Scottish giants are closing in on the transfers of 11-times Scotland international Dorrans and 19-times Mexico international Pena.

But Sky Sports report that Rangers will need to overcome some red tape hurdles to land Pena, who played for his country at the 2014 World Cup.

It is said that the Mexican will require a work permit to sign for the Glasgow club he has not featured for his country for a year since last year’s Copa America.

Pena is known in Mexico as ‘Gullit’ because of his resemblance to Dutch legend Ruud Gullit and is well known to manager Pedro Caixinha from his spell in charge at Santos Laguna from 2013 to 2015.

The midfielder has spent the season on loan at Mexican outfit Leon and has been a mainstay for the club, making 23 appearances in all competitions.

He is a versatile player and has been deployed in various positions across Leon’s midfield this season, seeing him play as an attacking midfielder, on the left-wing and as a second striker.

Rangers should have less difficulty in pushing through a deal for boyhood fan Dorrans, 30.

The experienced campaigner was a key player for Norwich in the recently completed season, scoring six goals from 24 appearances in all competitions,

He moved to Carrow Road in January 2015 after seven years at West Brom, and there has been speculation that he is keen to return to his native Glasgow.
