Piers Morgan has mocked Tottenham on Twitter for their social media fanbase – but Spurs fans have hit back in emphatic fashion.
Morgan, a known Arsenal supporter, took to his personal Twitter account on Monday morning to gloat about how many more Twitter followers he has than Tottenham.
5.8 million followers.
Thank you.
(That's 3.8 million more than @SpursOfficial ??)— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) May 29, 2017
The outspoken Good Morning Britain presenter hit 5.8million followers on Monday morning, while Tottenham’s official club Twitter account has just £2.1million, a deficit which Morgan was quick to point out to fans.
He said: “5.8million followers. Thank you. (That’s 3.8 million more than Tottenham).”
His initial aim was to thank the millions of people for choosing to follow him on Twitter, but he simply couldn’t resist the urge to make a mockery of Arsenal’s north London rivals.
Tottenham fans took the bait, and have delivered their own responses to Morgan’s criticism, particularly homing in on Arsenal’s failure to compete with their side in the Premier League last season.

Tottenham finished the 2016-17 Premier League season in second-place, 11 points clear of Arsenal, who finished fifth, and without Champions League football next term.
Spurs will instead be competing alongside the elite in Europe’s premier competition next season, having reached the group-stage for the second successive season, while Arsenal will be restricted to Thursday night action in the Europa League.
But there was cause for celebration as Arsenal lifted the FA Cup at the expense of Chelsea on Saturday, meaning despite their struggles, Arsenal finished the campaign with more silverware than rivals Tottenham.
