It’s that time again for West Ham supporters. Another transfer window and more strikers targeted by the London club.

Sky Sports reported on Sunday afternoon that the Hammers had put in a bid for Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho.

It is said that City value their highly-rated 20-year-old academy product at £20million, a very big fee for a player that has only played 46 Premier League matches.

Instead of looking to add Iheanacho to their attacking ranks, the West Ham chiefs should focus their attention elsewhere at a more experienced and suitable top-flight performer.

Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke, who made a £27million switch from Liverpool to Selhurst Park last summer, would be an ideal fit at the London Stadium.

Constant injuries to the likes of Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho has made life more difficult for manager Slaven Bilic who recently concluded a tough Premier League campaign.

He needs a consistently fit player producing the goods up top and more importantly someone who would suit their style of play.

Belgium international Benteke, who struck 15 league goals for Palace this term, is one of the strongest forwards in the division and someone who feeds off crosses.

The likes of Manuel Lanzino, Michail Antonio and Robert Snodgrass would all be able to provide Benteke that service, which would then allow the London club to flourish and move forward.

During his short career, Iheanacho has struck 12 league goals, whereas Benteke has found the back of the net on 66 occasions, mainly for struggling sides.

The West Ham chiefs need to be ambitious by putting in a big bid for the Palace man which would end their striker troubles and allow them to build a team around the proven performer.
