Monk odds-on to be new Palace manager

Garry Monk has been installed as the huge odds-on favourite to be the new manager of Crystal Palace, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

Monk was immediately made an early frontrunner to succeed Sam Allardyce at Selhurst Park after his shock decision to quit Leeds United last Thursday.

Sky Bet have narrowed the odds on the 38-year-old getting the Palace job to the point where he was 8/15 on Monday morning to take over the Palace hotseat.

Allardyce left Palace reeling when he abruptly quit as manager last Tuesday and suggested in a follow-up statement that his managerial career was over.

Marco Silva was installed as the early favourite to take over at Palace but he was appointed by Watford on Sunday.

The bookmakers’ response was to slash the odds on Monk being installed at Selhurst Park and following in the long line of Englishmen to be a recent manager of the Premier League club, including Allardyce, Alan Pardew, Neil Warnock, Tony Pulis and Ian Holloway.

The former Leeds boss is well ahead in the betting of second favourite, the Burnley manager Sean Dyche (4/1) and third favourite, Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic (8/1).

Leeds announced on their official website last Thursday afternoon that Monk had resigned after making it clear he did not want to discuss a long-term contract with the club.

The former Swansea manager left Elland Road with his reputation enhanced after steering the club to a seventh-place Championship finish after taking over a team that had ended the season between 13th and 15th in each of the previous five years.
