Kasey Palmer has taken it to Leeds fans on Twitter after the Huddersfield attacker helped his side gain promotion to the Premier League on Sunday.

Palmer, 20, was a substitute in Huddersfield’s penalty-shootout triumph against Reading at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, making his first appearance since picking up a hamstring injury against Leeds in February.

The attacking midfielder claimed Huddersfield are the “best team in Yorkshire” on his personal Twitter account, after blasting Leeds fans mocked him after suffering the injury almost four months ago.

Huddersfield gained promotion to the Premier League on Sunday after beating Reading following 120 minutes of tense football, with neither side able to break the deadlock.

Former Chelsea star Palmer took part in the majority of extra-time after coming on for Izzy Brown in the 98th minute, the four-time England Under-21 international’s first appearance since his injury.

David Wagner’s side secured the double over Leeds this season, beating the Whites 1-0 in September thanks to Aaron Mooy’s long-range strike before winning 2-1 at Hillsbrough as Michael Hefele struck late on.

Leeds missed out on a play-off place alongside Huddersfield by finishing in seventh place despite remaining in the Championship’s top six for five months between November and April.

The Terriers finished above their Yorkshire counterparts in fifth place and six points clear, but will now compete in the top tier as Wagner looks to avoid a relegation dogfight in the Premier League.
