Andy Couzens has called on Leeds to appoint former Hull City boss Marco Silva following Garry Monk’s decision to resign from the club.

Monk, 38, decided to resign from the Yorkshire giants after just one season in charge as discussions over renewing his current deal at Elland Road with owner Andrea Radrizzani hit the skids.

Similarly, Hull boss Marco Silva has also resigned after failing to keep the Tigers in the Premier League and will now be on the lookout for a new job.

Former Leeds midfielder Couzens called on his old side to snap up the Portuguese manager on his personal Twitter account, stating owner Radrizzani “needs to act quickly now”.

Former Swansea boss Monk took Leeds to within a whisker of the Championship play-offs in his first season in charge, as the Whites ran out of steam in their final fixtures.

The former Champions League outfit had been in the play-off places for five months between November and April, with Monk giving Leeds fans a reason to dream about ending their 13-year stay in the Football League.

However, Leeds failed to qualify and have now lost the manager that orchestrated their attempt at gaining a place alongside Reading, Huddersfield, Sheffield Wednesday and Fulham.

Now, Leeds will be in the market to hire a new manager this summer, with former Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka favourite to replace Monk.

Couzens played for Leeds between 1993 and 1997, making a total of 36 league and cup appearances before joining Carlisle and then Blackpool.
