Ian Wright believes that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will decide to leave the Emirates and he feels that it would be a “disaster” for the club.

The 67-year-old French manager led his side to their third FA Cup success in just four seasons last weekend with a 2-1 win over Premier League champions Chelsea at Wembley Stadium.

The victory meant that Arsene Wenger has become the most successful manager in the competition’s history – winning the trophy for a record seventh time.

Following the FA success, Wenger mentioned that there would be an announcement about his future at the club in the upcoming week.

Writing in his column for the Sun, Arsenal legend Ian Wright feels that the French manager might decide to walk away from the club.

“I’ve got a nasty feeling Arsene Wenger will walk away from the Arsenal job today – and leave the club totally in the lurch,” he wrote.

“And you would have to say it would serve them right, because there has been absolutely no forward planning for the day when Wenger finally left the Emirates.

“Let me make one thing totally clear here – I have absolutely no inside information on whether Wenger will go or stay. I could be way off the mark here, and he could shock us all by staying for another three or four years.

“My suspicion that he will walk away is pure gut instinct. But watching and listening to him over the past few months makes me believe he’s reached the end of his patience.

“In the last few weeks we have witnessed an emotional side of Wenger that we have never seen before.”

It has been a very tumultuous year for the Arsenal boss after he received mass criticism from both fans and pundits alike.

Arsenal finished the Premier League campaign in fifth and next season will be their first without Champions League football for almost 20 years.

Wright also believes that the Arsenal hierarchy will be the ones to blame should Wenger decide to leave in the summer and he feels that the Frenchman’s departure could leave the club in turmoil.

“And while we’re doling out the blame, the board deserve their share for allowing the uncertainty over the manger’s to snowball, by allowing him to make up his mind over a new contract at the very last minute.

“That is no way to run a football club. The next manager should have been identified ages ago, and shepherded by Arsene for a season or two, even if he didn’t like the idea.

He concluded: “With no-one to step in, I think it will be a disaster if Arsene goes.”
