Arsene Wenger reveals future could be sorted next week

Arsene Wenger has revealed that his future as Arsenal manager could be sorted during showdown talks on Wednesday after winning the FA Cup trophy against Chelsea on Saturday.

The Gunners earned a 2-1 victory over Chelsea at the Wembley Stadium, thanks to goals from Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey either side of a Diego Costa equaliser.

Speaking after the match, Wenger revealed that fans could know if the Frenchman will continue next week after a board meeting on Wednesday, as he enters the final month of his current deal at the Emirates Stadium.

“I have always been very clean on that (wanting to remain as manager),” Wenger said, as quoted by BBC Radio 5 Live’s official Twitter account.

“We have a board meeting on Wednesday. Wednesday or Thursday it (Wenger’s future) will be clearer.”

Arsenal earned Wenger’s seventh FA Cup winners’ medal as Gunners boss and the club’s 13th in total as they defied the odds to see off Antonio Conte’s surprisingly lacklustre side.

The north London giants took the lead controversially as Sanchez lashed home a close-range effort, but Costa equalised in the second half with an effort that David Ospina would have been disappointed to concede.

However, Wales international Aaron Ramsey restored the Gunners’ lead instantaneously, heading home an Olivier Giroud cross to secure the trophy.

Now, Wenger could remain in the hotseat at Arsenal following Saturday’s success, despite a split among fans over the future of the former Monaco manager.
