Wolves in talks with Nuno Espirito Santo to replace Paul Lambert – journalist

Wolves are in talks with Portuguese manager Nuno Espirito Santo as they look to replace current boss Paul Lambert, according to a reliable journalist.

Express & Star’s Wolves correspondent Tim Spiers claimed on his personal Twitter account that the Midlands giants’ owners Fosun International have identified the 43-year-old as their preferred candidate to take over from the Scot.

The Telegraph claimed earlier this month that former Aston Villa and Norwich manager Lambert could leave as he remains at loggerheads with the club’s owners over Wolves’ summer transfer policy.

Former Deportivo La Coruna, Porto and Dynamo Moscow goalkeeper Nuno entered management five years ago, taking over Portuguese minnows Rio Ave in 2012.

Remaining as boss for two years, Nuno starred as boss by taking his side to the Europa League as well as finals in both the Portuguese Cup and Portuguese League Cup.

His work was noticed in Spain, where he joined La Liga giants Valencia in 2014 and took the club to a lofty fourth place in his first season. Just three months in to the 2015-16 season, Nuno resigned.

The former Portugal Under-21 international returned to his home country with giants Porto, but after finishing the season devoid of silverware, he was sacked in May.

Now, Wolves could look to lure the manager to the Molineux, which would be Fosun’s third manager since taking over after hiring Walter Zenga before Lambert.

The former Premier League side struggled to have any impact on the top half of the Championship table this season, finishing in a mediocre 15th place despite scares of a relegation dogfight.
