High-profile pundit Stan Collymore has claimed on Twitter that Garry Monk will be a huge loss to Leeds United.
The Championship giants released a statement on their official website on Thursday afternoon to reveal that new owner Andrea Radrizzani had “reluctantly accepted” the resignation of Monk.
The ex-Swansea boss had told Leeds during a second round of contract talks on Wednesday that he did not want to discuss a long-term deal and requested that they did not exercise the option to extend his current agreement by a further 12 months.
Broadcaster Collymore is a big supporter of Monk and insisted that Premier League club Crystal Palace and relegated Sunderland “should already be on the phone” to the 38-year-old.
“Shame his Leeds stint is over”, wrote the former striker on his personal Twitter account. “Very much Leeds loss, though.”
Sunderland and Palace should already be on the phone to @GarryMonk.
Shame his #LUFC stint is over, very much Leeds loss though.

Monk made a huge impact at Leeds after being appointed last June by previous owner Massimo Cellino.
He transformed the fortunes of the team and lifted a fanbase that had been wounded by the severe financial crises of the previous decade as well as the erratic ownership of Cellino.
Leeds challenged strongly for promotion in the recently-completed Championship campaign before a final-month collapse meant they finished the season in seventh, one place and five points adrift of the play-offs.
