Jamie Carragher doesn’t believe that Istanbul was Steven Gerrard’s greatest moment as a footballer.

As the tributes pour in for the midfielder who announced his retirement most thoughts go back 11 years to the most dramatic turnaround in Champions League history.

Carragher was side by side with his Anfield skipper throughout that dramatic night by believes that another final 12 months later in Cardiff was the defining moment in Gerrard’s Anfield career.

Speaking to Sky Sports about his favourite Gerrard moment Carragher: I think the goal in Cardiff in 2006. With the last kick of the game, when we’re about to lose an FA Cup final, he did something completely out of the ordinary, shooting from 35, 40 yards.

I think if it was anyone else you’d be screaming at them not to shoot, but when it’s Stevie something special will happen.”

Last week Gerrard announced that he’d be returning to the UK from LA Galaxy but this morning he decided that he would also retire from playing.

Celtic, Newcastle and Inter Milan were all expected to put in offers for the former Liverpool midfielder but with his retirement from playing all eyes are watching closely to see where he decides to start his coaching career.
