Kevin Ratcliffe has urged Romelu Lukaku to develop a nasty streak like Diego Costa.
Writing in his column for the Liverpool Echo the former Everton skipper wants to see the Belgian striker to show a greater appetite for the game even if it borders of the dark arts of the game.
Chelsea bought and sold Lukaku for a £10m profit after loan spells at West Brom and Everton with many fans asking why he was never given a proper chance at Stamford Bridge.
Lukaku has scored a respectable seven times in the Premier League this season but Ratcliffe believes that a little nastiness could take the strikers game to a new level.
“Look at what Diego Costa is doing at Chelsea, I know who I’d want in my team week in, week out,” the Welshman explained.
“We’re always being told about Lukaku’s aspirations to challenge for major trophies but Europe’s elite clubs aren’t going to take him if he’s not working hard
“The major sides haven’t picked him up despite all his goals for Everton because they know they’re going to have to fork out around £70million and while Rom is great when it’s all hunky-dory it’s like he doesn’t want to know if the team are struggling.
“The lack of hunger from some players is the biggest problem for managers these days.”
Having played alongside Graham Sharp, Andy Gray and Peter Reid, Ratcliffe knows exactly what is needed to achieve success and plunder silverware.
