According to reports from Mirror Football, Stoke City hope to fend off transfer interest in Jack Butland by doubling the Liverpool and Manchester United target’s wages.

The 22-year-old has excelled since taking the No.1 mantle from Asmir Begovic at the start of the season, going on to register the second-most saves, 70, and fourth-most clean sheets, nine, of any goalkeeper in the Premier League.

The 6 foot 5 shot-stopper has emerged as a real contender for Joe Hart’s position in the England starting Xi and a number of top Premier League clubs were linked with his services towards the end of 2015 – most notably Everton, Liverpool and Manchester United.

Long-term No.1 Tim Howard looks set to end his decade at Goodison during the summer transfer window, whilst Simon Mignolet’s future at Anfield remains unclear and Real Madrid have been tipped to revive their interest in United talisman David De Gea.

But according to Mirror Football, Stoke City hope to fend off ‘possible summer bids from bigger Premier League clubs’ by tying their prodigious goalkeeper down to an improved contract. The new deal will double Butland’s wages to more than £50k per week and extend his stay at the Britannia until summer 2021.
