Mario Gotze

According to reports from TransferMarketWeb, Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund are ready to rival Liverpool in the race to sign Bayern Munich attacker Mario Gotze during the summer transfer window.

The German international is best famed for scoring the winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final but he’s struggled to impact at club level since controversially swapping Borussia Dortmund for the Bavarians in summer 2013.

Indeed, the 23-year-old has gone on to register just 67 Bundesliga appearances and often found himself excluded from the starting line-up for Bayern’s biggest fixtures in the Champions League.

Consequentially, the attacking midfielder has been tipped to leave the Allianz Arena during the summer transfer window – especially following a season in which injuries have limited him to just twelve outings across all competitions – at which point his Bayern contract will enter its final twelve months.

Having been regarded as one of the most exciting young players in world football whilst playing under Jurgen Klopp at Dortmund, a summer transfer to Liverpool has been speculated for some time.

But according to TransferMarketWeb, the Reds are set to be rivaled in the battle to sign Gotze by Arsenal, who are expected to overhaul their midfield options during the summer transfer window, and former club Borussia Dortmund.

The Daily Star rate Gotze at £31million, a sum well within the financial reach of all three clubs. But considering that was the amount Bayern paid for him three years ago and his contract expires at the end of next season, This Is Futbol believe they should be able to prize the 48-cap international away for less.
