Raphael Guerreiro

According to reports from Le10Sport and Gianluca Di Marzio, Liverpool are ready to rival Arsenal in the race to sign Lorient left-back Raphael Guerreiro during the summer transfer window.

The attacking left-back, who can also be deployed as a winger or wide midfielder, has bagged ten goals in 92 league outings for the French side – including a potent seven-strike haul in Ligue 1 last season.

With his contract on the verge of entering its final twelve months, the 22-year-old is attracting plenty of interest from the Premier League ahead of the summer transfer window.

Indeed, Le10Sport reported earlier this week that the Gunners have already made contact with Lorient regarding a potential summer transfer for the thrice-capped Portugal international.

But according to the French publication as well as Italian website Gianluca Di Marzio, Liverpool are also in the hunt to sign the 5 foot 7 starlet – viewing him as an ideal upgrade on struggling No.3 Alberto Moreno.

Due to the aforementioned contract situation, Lorient will struggle to turn down decent transfer bids for Guerreiro this summer, with Transfermarkt valuing him at around £5.5million.

But Le10Sport suggest Arsenal’s prior relationship with the French club, agreeing the £8.5million transfer of Laurent Koscielny in summer 2010, could give them the edge over Liverpool in negotiations.
